Jon T and his crew design/make some fine kites. The Nighthawk, Magnum and Delta Drive are a few I’ve owned and flown quite a bit and had a great time with. When I first took a glimpse of the the WM sail design I thought… WTF is that?! Ouch! I’ve tried all kinds of color combos on a colorizer and couldn’t come up with anything that looked appealing. Well I take that back… maybe black.
A few months ago I had the good fortune of getting my hands on a demo WM from Theresa at The Kite Shoppe and thought I would take it for a spin. It was maybe a good 2 to 3 weeks of reading various comments from fliers raving about the kite. And at that time I thought hmmm… it must be good. Well after 3 weeks of flying in various wind speed and conditions the WM just left me… blank. Sure it does this and does that… but at times all I could thing about was pulling out another kite to fly. Ever tasted a light beer where the initial taste was somewhat pleasing but the end sort of disappeared ? I mean it is a nice kite but to be honest for the size, style, and cost of the kite, I would rather be flying a Blue Moon Mantis. There were even times when I thought that my tweaked Prism Hypnotist/Mirage with SkyShark P300 leading edges had more life in flying and tricking.
So there… I said it. The only non-thumbs up review of the WM. Still a fine kite but just not my pint of light beer.
But… I think the cheaper version Widow at half the cost is another story. I could perhaps like the kite. And I still have my eye on the smaller version Wolf. Steve swears by it. He said that it’s the most fun he’s had with a kite that size since the original version of the R-Sky Frenezy and Benson Minigem.
Wanted to say thanks to Theresa and The Kite Shoppe for the opportunity. And a big thanks to Jon T in his continued contribution to the kiting community.
