Old Dominion Sport Kite Championships

620618635_965080e5a8.jpgI’ve been snowed under in the office recently, but I was able to make it up to Richmond, VA this past weekend for the Old Dominion Sport Kite Championships, ODSKC. There was no Tricks Party this time because one of the soccer fields used for the event was out of bounds having just (like two days previously) be re-turfed.

I wasn’t competing, just spectating, chatting and hanging out. I didn’t take very many pictures this year as I tried to watch more of the performances and get some flying time in myself when the winds allowed. I’ve committed to competing in the re-scheduled Tricks Party event in November, which really isn’t that far off so I’d better find some more time to practice, and find a piece of music.

With Richmond being inland and all, light wind kites are invariably the order of the day and a good selection of dual lines kites were being flown in the competition and on the sidelines. The competition draws people from all over the East coast from as far away as Connecticut and Florida and its easy to see why they come the friendly and relaxed atmosphere make it as much a social event as a kite competition.

I really enjoy ODSKC and catching up with those fine RAF folks and I look forward to my next trip up to Virginia.
